Botox

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® (Allergan Irvine, CA) is purified protein from Botulinum Toxin Type A. Vials of BOTOX® also contain human albumin and sodium chloride (salt) without a preservative in a sterile vacuum-dried form which is reconstituted with sterile saline.

How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® binds with motor nerve terminals in the body to inhibit the release of a chemical called Acetylcholine. When injected locally into a muscle BOTOX® produces a reversible paralysis of that muscle.

What is BOTOX® used for?

At Infinity MedSpa BOTOX® is used to treat dynamic wrinkles of the face and muscular cords of the neck. The areas most commonly treated are the wrinkles between the eyebrows (glabellar frown lines), forehead and crowsfeet.

Are the effects of BOTOX® permanent?

When used for wrinkle reduction the effects of BOTOX® are temporary, with muscle function (and the associated wrinkling) usually returning within three to 5 months. Some patients get even longer lasting results!

How is BOTOX® placed and what is the recovery time?

BOTOX® is injected directly into the muscle through a small needle in the physician's office. Patients usually return to work that day and in most cases could participate in a social engagement that evening.

Are there risks associated with BOTOX®?

There are risks associated with BOTOX® use, however complications are usually temporary because of the non-permanent nature of BOTOX®. A thorough discussion of all risks, alternatives and potential benefits is an important part of the consultative process prior to undergoing any aesthetic surgical procedure including BOTOX® treatment.
